About the Author

Stuart R. Fleming

Originally from Paisley, Scotland, Stuart R Fleming is a published author whose fiction has been shaped by his long relationship with Greece.

After learning to sail in Corfu, Stuart spent years travelling through Greek waters aboard his yacht, Samantha. Greece gradually became more than a destination. Its islands, cities, people and changing communities became part of his life and the imaginative landscape of his writing.

His stories move between Athens apartment blocks, Piraeus harbours, Kytheran houses, island villages and lives carried overseas. Blending literary warmth, humour, romance and social observation, his work explores family, grief, migration, ageing, loneliness, reinvention and belonging.

His books include the novel Greek Odyssey of the Heart and the forthcoming short-story collection Olive Leaves and Concrete Streets: Stories of Athens, Kythera and the Lives Between.

His work explores the point where place, memory and ordinary life become inseparable.

“I write from the stillness that the sea taught me.” — Stuart

STORIES SHAPED BY PLACE AND EXPERIENCE

A LIFE SHAPED BY GREECE

  • Writing From Real Life

Stuart’s writing grows from places he has known closely and experiences he has lived rather than observed from a distance. Years spent sailing, travelling and building a life in Greece have given his stories their sense of place, emotional honesty and attention to ordinary lives.

  • Greek Roots

Greece is more than a setting in Stuart’s work. Its islands, city streets, harbours, traditions and changing communities shape the atmosphere of his fiction. His stories look beyond the familiar postcard image to explore the people, relationships and realities found beneath it.

  • Years at Sea

After learning to sail in Corfu, Stuart travelled through Greek waters aboard his yacht, Samantha. Life at sea gave him a particular awareness of movement, stillness, uncertainty and belonging, qualities that continue to influence the rhythm and perspective of his writing.

  • Stories Drawn From Life

Through fiction, Stuart explores family, love, loss, migration, ageing, loneliness and reinvention. His characters are often ordinary people facing moments of change, and his stories reveal how memory and place can shape the direction of a life.
